Coolie 9 AM Shows Cancelled in Salem, Hosur, Namakkal, Dharmapuri, Dindigul, Madurai and Sivakasi – Only INOX and PVR Offer Early Morning Screenings

The Tamil Nadu government may have approved special screenings for Coolie, but many fans are waking up disappointed. Across several cities—Salem, Hosur, Namakkal, Dharmapuri, Dindigul, Madurai, and Sivakasi—numerous 9 AM shows have been abruptly canceled, forcing audiences to wait until late morning or noon to watch Superstar Rajinikanth’s much-awaited film. The sudden change has caused frustration among those who had booked tickets in advance, especially fans who planned first-day-first-show celebrations.

Why Were 9 AM Coolie Shows Canceled?

The primary reason for the cancellations appears to be last-minute restrictions in certain distribution areas. SPR Cinecastle confirmed that multiplexes in the Salem distribution zone were denied permission for early morning screenings, leading to the removal of all 9 AM slots. This decision quickly rippled across other cities, creating a statewide disruption. In addition, reports suggest that distributor Red Giant requested theaters to price first-day tickets at ₹500, a move that sparked mixed reactions and may have further complicated show approvals.

Theatres and Fans Share Concerns

Theater owners have publicly addressed the situation. Dindigul Cinemas stated that major screens in their city had not opened early morning bookings, and discussions with the Rajini Fans Club revealed that audiences were “deeply worried.” This is not the first time such issues have emerged—previous releases like GoodBadUgly faced similar first-show delays in the region. Girish Anand NR of DNC properties confirmed no FDFS across his theaters, with screenings starting after 12 PM. Umaa Rajendra Cinemas set their first show for 12:40 PM, while Aascar Multiplex planned a 12:30 PM start on August 14.

Exceptions: INOX and PVR Still Have 9 AM Shows

Amid the widespread cancellations, some theaters are still delivering early shows. MKG Film Palace in Salem will run its first Coolie show at 12:45 PM with four screenings throughout the day. More importantly, INOX and PVR remain exceptions, continuing their 9 AM shows. INOX’s position as part of an international multiplex chain allows it to handle the operational demands of early screenings more efficiently than smaller, independent theaters.

Coolie Show Timings

Currently, only INOX and PVR are offering 9 AM Coolie shows in Tamil Nadu. Smaller circuits and single-screen theaters have opted for later start times due to operational and regulatory constraints. The cancellations have disrupted plans for thousands of fans, highlighting the need for better coordination and transparent communication between distributors, exhibitors, and authorities. Moving forward, a streamlined approach will be essential to ensure that the excitement of big releases is not dampened by last-minute changes.
